WELCOME TO OUR LIBRARY!

Every student PK-3 through fifth grade has a scheduled class time once a week to visit the library.  For younger students this is a story time, but grades 1-5 have library skills as well as browsing time to check out books. Instruction for first and second grade is usually incorporated into story time, with more in-depth study in grades 3-5.

In addition to class time, the library is open every morning at 7:45 and closes at 2:45 P.M.  Students are allowed to visit anytime during the day unless a class is in session.

BIRTHDAY BOOK CLUB

One way to participate in support of our library is to donate a book on your child’s birthday.  At the beginning of each month, we send home letters to those students who birthdays that month.  Fill out the form, send a check for $15, and  the child can select a book of his/her choice.  We place a bookplate in the front to show that it was given in honor of your child’s birthday and he/she is the first to check out the book.  Birthday Book Club members’ names are posted in the library and, at the end of the year, we have an ice cream party for them. Books can also be dedicated to teachers, faculty, administrators, and board members to show appreciation.

AR KICKOFF

We will begin a new year of Accelerated Reader on September 1, 2011 with our AR kickoff.  Our theme for the year is the Kingdom of Reading.  Dr. Johnson will be crowned our Reading Queen and will present summer reading certificates to those who met or surpassed their summer goals.

Our emphasis once again will be on each student making his personal goal.   We will follow that progress on the front hall bulletin board. Parents can also follow their child’s progress through the Renaissance Home Connect website.

BOOK FAIR

Our Scholastic Book Fair will be the week of October 31 – November 4, 2010.  Mark your calendars, for this is a great time to purchase books for your children and do a little early Christmas shopping as well.  Our theme this year will be “Camp Out With a Good Book.” Some of the money we have made in the past has helped bring visiting authors to our school and to purchase a SMART Board® for the technology center. This year we will be using the money raised to purchase more media equipment and materials for the library. We hope to purchase a class set of Neo2® for Accelerated Reader testing, word processing, and interactive lessons.

If you are interested in receiving news about what is happening in our library by email please let us know by sending a message to
elemlib@generals.ws. We also have a “wishlist” on Amazon.com for parents and community members who want to support us by purchasing books for the library. We are proud of our library and feel very fortunate to have such an excellent resource for our students. Thank you for the support you have given us in the past, and we look forward to another great year.
