Sixth grade art teams built Towers of Paper while
focusing on skills such as communication,
negotiation, problem-solving, and team-building
techniques.
Each team of five students was given a stack of
newspapers and a roll of masking tape, and they were
instructed to build a tower that 1) used only
newspaper and tape; 2) was free standing; and 3) was
at least as tall as Richard Word---the tallest
student in the class!
Each team showed expertise in one
area or another, and a critique session at the end
of the session helped to identify keys to success
and areas that needed improvement.
Today's high-performance organizations require team
players who have a grasp on the skills listed above.
Students must be prepared to be flexible, be
adaptable, and be able to work well with others in
order to further their corporate goals and be
successful.
